India once again showed why their matches against Pakistan are not a real rivalry in women’s cricket. They secured an 88-run victory in the Women’s World Cup match on Sunday, October 5, at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. With this win, India improved their head-to-head record against Pakistan to an impressive 12-0 since their first meeting in 2005.
India women victory create history, Pakistan team Defeated
This victory also marked the 4th consecutive Sunday that an Indian team has beaten Pakistan across formats, following the men’s team’s win in the Asia Cup. The win helped India take the top spot on the points table with four points and a net run rate of +1.505. Although they were not at their best with the bat and in the field, India was effective enough to comfortably defeat Pakistan.
India struggled to find their rhythm throughout their innings and ended up being bowled out for 247. None of the batters reached a half-century as Pakistan’s bowlers maintained tight control from start to finish. Smriti Mandhana (23) fell cheaply again, this time to Fatima Sana, following a poor performance against Sri Lanka. Pratika Rawal (31) batted well but was dismissed by left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal.
Extend 12-0 Streak Amid Toss and Run-Out Controversies
Sneh Rana and Deepti Sharma (25) tried to stabilize the innings, forms a 42-run partnership for the 6th wicket. However, they not generate the momentum India needed, and once they were dismissed in quick succession, the score looked uncompetitive.
India also played too many dot balls in clusters, allowing Pakistan’s spinners—Sadia Iqbal, Nashra Sandhu, and Rameen Shamim—to apply pressure during the middle overs and limit scoring chances. The decision to promote Sneh Rana ahead of Richa Ghosh did not pay off; Rana scored 20 off 33 balls before Fatima Sana took her wicket. Ghosh, coming in late at No. 8, finally provided some much-needed energy to India’s innings. She finished unbeaten on 35 off 20 balls, showing aggressive intent and hitting the ball cleanly.
