India’s women made cricket history at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on November 2, 2025. They secured their first ICC Cricket World Cup title. Harmanpreet Kaur’s team overcame years of disappointment with a strong all-round performance, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.
Rain delayed the match for two hours, but it did not affect India’s hopes for the title. South Africa, making their first appearance in an ODI final, won the toss and chose to field, setting up a match between two teams aiming for their first championship.
India win ICC Cricket World Cup title
India’s openers, Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana, gave the hosts a fantastic start. They added 104 runs for the opening partnership with bold hitting and quick running. Mandhana’s elegant boundaries complemented Shafali’s aggression. India reached 64 runs during the power play, the highest total in the first 10 overs of this year’s tournament.
Opening stand dominance
Harmanpreet Kaur steadied the innings with a 52-run partnership alongside Deepti Sharma. After Harmanpreet got out and a brief appearance by Amanjot Kaur, Richa Ghosh brought fire to the finish. Her quick 34 off 24 balls boosted India in the closing overs, setting new six-hitting records for the tournament.
