The IPL 2026 season set to begin on March 26, with the final scheduled for May 31. However, the full fixture list has not finalized yet. In a meeting on Tuesday, the IPL Governing Council decided that the schedule confirmed and released only after the Election Commission announces polling dates for the upcoming assembly elections in five states.
Why IPL 2026 schedule delayed?
The assembly elections planned for April and May in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala, and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
According to a report in DainikJagran, the BCCI has suggested 18 venues to host matches during IPL 2026, including locations in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Assam. However, since the Election Commission has not declared the election dates, the final schedule is still pending.
Proposed Venues
The report mentioned that up to 18 cities are competing to host IPL 2026 matches in the upcoming season. These cities include Delhi, Lucknow, Dharamsala, New Chandigarh, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Navi Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, Guwahati, Jaipur, Bengaluru, Pune, Ranchi, and Raipur.
