Seventeen ODI series in India, including four World Cups and a Champions Trophy, but New Zealand had never won a trophy on Indian soil. On Sunday, the Blackcaps proved they were tough opponents by securing a solid 41-run victory in Indore. This win clinched a historic 2-1 series victory against India.
Virat Kohli performance fall shorts in ODI series
Daryl Mitchell scored 137, and Glenn Phillips added 106. Their record fourth-wicket partnership of 219 helped New Zealand reach an impressive 337 for eight in 50 overs. India struggled during the chase as early wickets disrupted their momentum. The Blackcaps’ bowlers maintained discipline, a quality they showed consistently throughout the series.
For India, ViratKohli fought valiantly with an outstanding 124 off 108 balls, but wickets kept falling around him, except for Nitish Kumar Reddy. This defeat marked a new low for the hosts, as it was their first home series loss since 2019, when Australia defeated them.
New Zealand win against India
When the Indian chase began with a boundary from Rohit Sharma, fans expected a straightforward pursuit with little drama. Given Holkar Stadium’s reputation for high scores, many believed India would easily reach the target.
However, a consistent issue throughout the series, especially among India’s batters, was the tendency to repeat mistakes. Once New Zealand adjusted its bowling, Rohit seemed to lose his confidence, and his dismissal echoed how he gotten out in the previous two games.
Trying to break free, Rohitskied a delivery to Kristian Clarke, leaving India at 28 for one after four overs. Shubman Gill, who had shown good form with two fifties in the previous matches, once again fell victim to his struggles against Kyle Jamieson’s in-swingers. New Zealand’s pacer dismissed Gill for the 4th time in ODI series, marking the third time he bowled in a similar way, as India slipped to 45 for two within seven overs. Kohli, eager to improve after his failure in Rajkot, began his innings with a brilliant six off Foulkes.
