Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have decided to trade Mohammed Shami to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). This will be a cash-only deal as per online reports. LSG will pay SRH INR 10 crore (about US$1.12 million), the same amount SRH spent to acquire Shami in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
While both teams have agreed on the terms of the deal, they still need Shami’s approval to finalize the trade. The IPL has set 3 pm on November 15 as the deadline for clubs to submit their list of players they will release for the 2025 season.
Mohammed Shami’s form, struggles, and the road ahead
SRH invested significantly in Shami after his impressive performance during the power play for the Gujarat Titans between 2022 and 2024. He took 28 wickets in the first six overs, the most by any bowler during that time. However, after missing IPL 2024 due to injury, Shami’s performance in 2025 declined sharply. He managed only five powerplay wickets in nine innings with an economy rate of 10.3.
Shami reunite with Bharat Arun in Lucknow Super Giants
At LSG, Mohammed Shami will reunite with Bharat Arun, the former India bowling coach who is now the franchise’s head of talent development. Arun helped shape India’s strong pace attack over the past decade, working closely with Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, and Mohammed Siraj.
LSG are also facing fitness issues with their Indian fast bowlers—Avesh Khan, Mayank Yadav, and Mohsin Khan—all of whom are in rehab for various injuries and are not available for domestic cricket. Shami’s arrival could provide vital depth and experience during this time of uncertainty.
