Najam Sethi, the former chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), attacks on the Imran Khan. He blamed that Imran Khan is responsible for national team’s downfall and their embarrassing group-stage exit in the Champions Trophy. The host country and defending champions face a humiliating fate after losing their opening two Group A matches last week. He post on X that who served as PCB chief between December 2022 and June 2023 failed to wrap head around the fact Pakistan.
Why PCB Chairman blame Imran Khan
PCB Chairman Sethi blames the Imran Khan for not justifying with nation. Sethi reckoned the downslide starts in 2019 when PCB management brought in, head by Ehsan Mani, under then PM Imran. The cricket fraternity says that Pakistan hit rock bottom. How come a cricket team that was once no 1 in T20s (2018) and Tests (2016) and ODIs (1990 and 1996), that won WC in 1992 and CT in 2017, equated today with Zimbabwe?”
With this change in the age-old domestic cricket structure, political interference and contradictory policies become a big part in going hassles for the Pakistan team.
National team downfall starts in 2019
After the PCB chairman angry with Imran Khan, fans questioned over the downfall era. The downfall began in 2019 when new management under a new PM/Patron changed the domestic cricket structure. It replaced it with an ill-suited Australian hybrid model. Political interference cause; contradictory PCB policies became the norm— foreign coaches were hired and sent packing, and selectors were nominated. Old discards were placed to guide and manage. Finally, clash of captain egos, player power, groupings in the team came results in fumbling management. It causes horrible results,” he said.
