Rajasthan Royals announced that Kumar Sangakkara from Sri Lanka has reappointed as the team’s head coach ahead of the 2026 IPL season. Sangakkara previously held this position from 2021 to 2024. Last year, he was promoted to director of cricket, while Rahul Dravid took over as coach for IPL 2025.
Coaching staff of Rajasthan Royals changed
The Royals also made changes to the coaching staff. Vikram Rathour will now serve as the lead assistant coach. Trevor Penney and Sid Lahiri return as assistant coach and performance coach, respectively. Shane Bond, who joined the Royals in 2024, will remain the fast bowling coach.
In a notable change in the playing roster, the Royals traded long-time captain Sanju Samson for Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran from Chennai Super Kings.
