Rishabh Pant become 2nd wicketkeeper in 93 years
This is Pant’s first Test as captain of Team India. He is leading the team because Shubman Gill is unavailable. Gill is out of the second Test due to a neck injury he sustained on Day 2 of the first Test in Kolkata last week.
In the 93 years since India played its first Test in 1932, 38 players have captained India. Pant is the second designated wicketkeeper-batter to take on this role, following Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Pant has also captained India in five T20I matches. He made his T20I captaincy debut against South Africa in Delhi on June 9, 2022. As captain of India’s T20I team, Pant has won two matches and lost two.
