Sanju Samson manage vice captaincy during Shubman Gill absence
With Gill missing, Sanju Samson expected to open the innings with Abhishek Sharma. Ishan Kishan, who had outstanding campaign in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and led Jharkhand to the title, secured a place in the 15-member squad.
Besides Gill, wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma also excluded as Ishan Kishan returned to the team after his explosive performance that helped Jharkhand win the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Meanwhile, Rinku Singh back in the T20I team after not being part of the 3-1 series win in South Africa.
Schedule of 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup
The 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup will take place from February 7 to March 8. There is 40 group matches played until February 20. The top two teams from each of the four groups will move on to the Super 80s starting on February 21.
India and Sri Lanka are hosting the Men’s T20 World Cup for the second time. Sri Lanka hosted the 2012 edition, while India last held the competition in 2016. After the three-match ODI series, India play five T20Is against New Zealand, beginning on January 21 in Nagpur.
