Shubman Gill Nears BCCI A+ Contract Upgrade, Will Get Promotion

Shubman Gill may receive a significant promotion in the new BCCI contract list for the 2025/26 season. The decision about player contracts will be made at the BCCI’s 31st AGM on December 22nd. Gill, who is currently the Test and ODI captain, may move up to Grade A+.

He is currently on the Grade A list and earns a salary of Rs 5 crore. Players in the Grade A+ category earn Rs 7 crore per year.

Shubman Gill will get promotions by BCCI

According to PTI, Gill might be placed in the Grade A+ category with Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah. Jadeja and Bumrah were given Grade A+ contracts for the 2024/25 season. Jadeja retired from T20Is after the 2024 World Cup and now competes only in Tests and ODIs.

Bumrah plays in all three formats. He participates in Tests and one of ODIs or T20Is during a cycle. The right-arm pacer hasn’t played an ODI since the 2023 World Cup and is likely to skip T20Is after the 2026 World Cup, focusing on ODIs leading up to the 2027 World Cup.

BCCI replace Rohit Sharma with Gill

Shubman Gill growth has been notable. He became India’s captain in two formats in 2025. The opening batsman took over from Rohit Sharma as the ODI captain. The selectors made a surprising decision to remove Rohit as captain, despite his success in leading India to a title win in the 2025 Champions Trophy. Gill made his ODI captaincy debut against Australia.

Gill succeeded Rohit Sharma as the Test captain after Rohit’s retirement. The former India U-19 vice-captain got the nod over Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah for the top job. Bumrah had been Rohit’s deputy for three years and had led the team during Rohit’s absences. However, the selectors chose Gill, who guided India to a 2-2 draw in the five-match Test series against England.

Gill has been helping Suryakumar Yadav in T20Is for over a year now. He seems poised to become India’s next all-format captain after the 2026 T20 World Cup.
