The Pakistan government has announced that its national cricket team will participate in the T20 World Cup 2026, but the team will not play its match against India. Pakistan set to face the Suryakumar Yadav-led side in Colombo on February 15.
Pakistan announce Boycott to India for T20 World Cup match
The country revealed its decision, following the International Cricket Council’s ruling on the Bangladesh matter. Bangladesh requested that their T20 World Cup matches moved out of India due to Mustafizur Rahman’s exit from the Indian Premier League. Pakistan supported Bangladesh’s request, but the ICC denied it, resulting in Bangladesh replaced by Scotland.
A week after the ICC’s decision, Pakistan expressed its reluctance to face India. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar reacted to the situation by stating that the cricket board should take action against PAK to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Gavaskar slams ICC behind PAK
“Definitely, I think if you withdraw at the last moment, that is an issue. If you withdraw earlier, that’s different. But if you withdraw at the last moment, on the eve of the tournament, then yes, I think the ICC should step in and take some action. I don’t know what action they take, but I think there are many other boards involved, so it’s not just one person’s decision. However, it should ensure that no other team considers doing this in the future,” Gavaskar told.
Gavaskar also mentioned that the ICC might pursue legal action against Pakistan for its stance, but the outcome of such action is uncertain. “The ICC will probably take legal action against Pakistan for refusing to play against India, but I can’t predict the outcome of that action.
