Chennai is about to make history as the first city in the country connect all public transport modes through a single platform. On Monday, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launch the long-awaited ‘Chennai One’ app. It is created by the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) during the authority’s second governing board meeting.
Chennai One app boost sustainable transport system
This launch is a significant step in the state government’s plan. It build an inclusive and sustainable transport system for the rapidly growing city. Along with the app, CM approve the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP), a long-term guide for the city’s transport strategies over the next 25 years.
The CMP aims to ensure smooth connections and improve convenience for commuters. It reduce carbon emissions by increasing the use of public and non-motorized transport.
One ticket for all types of transport via bus, metro, rail, cabs, etc
A key feature of this initiative is the ‘One City, One Ticket’ option. It allows passengers to use a single QR-enabled ticket for buses, metro trains, suburban rail, cabs, and autorickshaws in Chennai. Commuters can switch between transport modes without waiting in multiple lines or buying separate tickets, saving time and effort. The app provides real-time updates on bus and train arrivals and departures. It helps passengers plan their trips more effectively.
Tickets can be bought through UPI and other digital payment methods, promoting cashless transactions and reducing crowding at ticket counters. Officials believe the app will enhance the commuter experience and encourage a shift from private vehicles to public transport. This will help ease road congestion and cut emissions.
