The fully air-conditioned train aims to give passengers an airline-like travel experience at affordable fares. It make long-distance journeys faster, safer, and more convenient.
It consists of 16 modern coaches with a total capacity of 823 passengers. Akashvani’s correspondent reports that the service will especially benefit regular passengers, students, professionals, migrant workers, traders, and religious pilgrims.
Fast, modern and reliable travel option
The Vande Bharat Sleeper trains will provide a fast, modern, and reliable travel option for people in West Bengal and Assam. Visits to major pilgrimage centers like Kalighat Temple and Kamakhya Devi Temple will become easier, safer, and more convenient. The new train on the Howrah-Guwahati route will greatly reduce travel time compared to the current fastest service, the Saraighat Express.
The Saraighat Express takes about 17 hours to travel from Howrah to Guwahati; in comparison, the train will finish the same trip in just 14 hours. The shorter travel time will encourage regional trade, tourism, and employment, strengthening economic and cultural connections across regions. PM Modi will also lay the foundation for four major railway projects in West Bengal.
