PM Modi flag off 25 Electric Buses in Chandigarh
To support cleaner public transport, 100 electric buses have been approved under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme for Chandigarh. Officials noted that Chandigarh is the first city in the country to receive 12-meter low-floor AC electric buses.
These buses have a range of 224 km on a single charge and a floor height of 400 mm to make boarding easier for senior citizens and women. They also include a power-operated ramp to assist passengers with disabilities, especially those in wheelchairs. Additionally, there is an electronically controlled kneeling mechanism to further aid wheelchair users.
Accommodation for 50+ passengers
With air suspension at both front and rear, these buses seat 36 passengers and accommodate 20 standing passengers, along with the driver and wheelchair space. Cameras at both passenger doors count boarding and deboarding passengers. There are also four additional CCTV cameras in the buses: two for the passenger area, one for monitoring driver behavior, and one for reversing.
