Freezing nights and foggy mornings: Cold waves continue to grip Delhi NCR, Punjab, and Haryana

Cold waves continued to grip Delhi NCR, along with neighboring Punjab and Haryana on Sunday, as temperatures plunged further, bringing freezing nights and foggy mornings. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 4.9 degrees Celsius by 5:30 PM as one of the coldest nights of the season.

The Pusa Observatory also reported a steeper fall with the lowest temperature being 3.8 degrees Celsius. Narela too experienced a cold, with a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius. While Delhi shivered in the icy winds, its Air Quality Index (AQI) remained in the ‘poor’ category, worsening the already harsh conditions.

The cold spell continued to hold fast over Punjab and Haryana, forcing inhabitants to contend with the frozen weather conditions. In Punjab, Bathinda registered a low of 4.6 degrees Celsius, while Gurdaspur recorded an icy 2 degrees Celsius. Pathankot and Amritsar experienced 3.5 degrees Celsius and 3.9 degrees Celsius, respectively. Ludhiana and Patiala also suffered from cold weather, 6.8 and 3.8 °C, respectively, as minimum temperatures.

Haryana saw even lower temperatures in some areas. Hisar recorded a bone-chilling 1.7 degrees Celsius, the lowest in the state. Narnaul then 3 degrees C, Bhiwani, Gurugram, and Rohtak then 4 5.6 and 5.2 degrees C, respectively. Ambala registered a minimum of 5.7 degrees Celsius. In the meantime, the common capital of Punjab and Haryana Chandigarh registered a minimum temperature of 4.8 degrees Celsius.

Foggy Days Ahead: The IMD forecasts that the cold wave will continue in the next few days and the temperature will remain below 5.
