Donald Trump on Op Sindoor: Pak PM Claimed 35 Million Would Have Died If Not for Me

US President Donald Trump reiterated his claim of stopping eight wars, including the military conflict between India and Pakistan last year, during the first year of his second term. He said Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif informed him that about 35 million people would have died in India’s Operation Sindoor without US involvement for a truce.

Donald Trump Claims Credit for Preventing India–Pakistan War

“We’re proudly restoring safety for Americans at home and abroad. In my first 10 months, I ended 8 wars. Pakistan and India would have had a nuclear war,” Trump said during his State of the Union address to Congress.

“35 million people, said the Prime Minister of Pakistan, would have died if it were not for my involvement.”  He added that his administration is “working very hard to end a ninth war.”

“The killing and slaughter between Russia and Ukraine. This is a war that never would have happened if I were president.”  He also honored a World War II veteran and later remarked, “I’ve always wanted the Congressional Medal of Honour, but I was informed I’m not allowed to give it to myself.”

India Rejects Third-Party Role in Operation Sindoor

Trump has often said he stopped eight wars within the first year of his second term. He has taken credit for halting the India-Pakistan conflict more than 80 times since May 10 last year, when he announced on social media that the two countries had agreed to a “full and immediate” ceasefire after talks led by the US.

The US leader claimed he threatened to impose 200 % tariffs on the two nuclear-armed neighbors if they didn’t stop fighting.

India, however, has consistently denied any third-party involvement during the armed conflict in May 2025. New Delhi said that the agreement to cease hostilities with Pakistan came after direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both militaries.
