Iran has assured its “Indian friends” that they do not need to worry about the Strait of Hormuz, an important shipping route that has faced disruptions since Israel and the United States attacked Tehran on February 28.
“Our Indian friends are in safe hands, no worries,” the Embassy of Iran in India stated in a post on X on Thursday.
Iran give assurance to India
Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz, where 20 % of the world’s energy is transported. Since the conflict began last month, very few ships have been allowed by Iran to cross it. Iran has claimed it has permitted “friendly nations,” including India, China, Russia, Iraq, and Pakistan, to pass through Hormuz. The blockade has caused serious disturbances in energy supply to many countries, including India.
8 Indian Ships Have Exited Hormuz
So far, at least 8 Indian ships have exited the Strait of Hormuz. These include two LPG carriers, BW TYR and BW ELM, with a total LPG cargo of about 94,000 tonnes. Currently, 19 ships with LPG, crude oil, and LNG meant for India are stranded in Hormuz, according to officials.
At an inter-ministerial meeting on the impact of developments in the Middle East on March 30, Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Special Secretary in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, reported that 10 foreign-flagged vessels carrying energy cargo for India are currently stuck. These consist of three LPG vessels, four crude oil tankers, and three liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.
