Trump Next Target on China: Increase Tariffs and Pressure to Scale Back Russian Oil Purchases

Trump Next Target on China over its purchases of Russian oil. Speaking to Fox News, Vance said no final decision made but confirmed that the idea is under discussion. Earlier this week, Trump announced tariffs on India, mentioned its import of Russian oil.

The discussions mirror developing problems in Trump’s circle over Beijing’s role in supporting Moscow’s economy amid the ongoing warfare in Ukraine. The measure aims to pressure China to reduce its oil trade with Russia.

Trump Next Target on China after India

Last week, the White House issued an Executive Order imposing a further 25 % points in tariffs on all Indian items, raising the total obligation to 50%. The flow, announced by Trump, targets India’s continued imports of Russian oil, that the administration says undermine US international policy and national safety history.

The new tariffs will take effect 21 days after the signing of the order, providing a quick window for India and Russia to potentially negotiate with Washington at the import taxes.

White House Trade Adviser Peter Navarro said India confronted the steep hike due to its “refusal” to halt purchases of Russian crude, an exchange the US claims is supporting fund Moscow’s warfare in Ukraine.

No trade talks till the dispute resolved

Before Trump Next Target on China, he announced last week that America not participate in new trade negotiations with India till the dispute is resolved. The Executive Order also allows for the expansion or discount of tariffs relying on a country’s alignment with the US national safety and foreign coverage targets.

The penalty on India follows the administration’s earlier trade movements towards other international locations, however, contrasts with a softer technique toward China. While Beijing currently faces a 30% tariff, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent cautioned that its August 12 deadline extended if trade talks occurs.
