The Trump Slaps India by announced a 25 % tariff on imports from India. These new duties will begin at 12:01 am (EST) on August 27. The notice, issued by the Department of Homeland Security through US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), said that the tariffs enforce President Donald Trump’s Executive Order 14329, signed on August 6. This order instructed US agencies to address “threats to the United States by the Government of the Russian Federation.” India has been targeted for these new duties as part of that response.
Extra 25% Tariffs by Trump Slaps India
The tariffs will cover a wide range of Indian products listed in the notice’s annex. They will apply to goods that arrive for use or are taken out of warehouses after the deadline.
President Trump has also indicated that he might impose further tariffs on countries trading with Russia or apply more sanctions on Moscow if a deal does not come together. He warned of “very big consequences” in the coming weeks if there is no progress.
So far, the US has not imposed similar measures on other significant buyers of Russian oil, including China.
Unfair and unjustice tariffs impose on India
In August, Trump added a 25 percent tariff, making the total levy 50 percent on goods from India due to New Delhi’s ongoing purchase of Russian oil. Indian officials have condemned these secondary tariffs as “unfair, unjustified, and unreasonable,” after Trump Slaps India.
India has stated that it will do whatever it can to protect its national interest. Officials described the US decision to increase the tariffs to 50 percent as “extremely unfortunate.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that his government would find a solution despite the economic pressure from Washington.
