US Court Crushes Trump Illegal Tariffs, Effective from Mid October

US President Donald Trump reiterated that all tariffs imposed on other countries will stay in place. He warned that removing them will “disastrous to the country.” His remarks followed a US court ruling that deemed many of Trump’s tariffs, which have disrupted global trade, illegal. However, the court decided to keep the Trump Illegal Tariffs in place for now, allowing Trump time to appeal to the Supreme Court.

US court claims Trump Illegal Tariffs

“All tariffs are still in effect. Today, a highly partisan appeals court wrongly said that our tariffs should be removed. They know the United States of America will win in the end. If these tariffs ever disappeared, it will a total disaster for the country. It would weaken us financially, and we have to be strong,” Trump posted.

He continued, “The U.S.A. will not tolerate enormous trade deficits and unfair tariffs and non-tariff trade barriers imposed by other countries, whether friend or foe, that hurt our producers, farmers, and everyone else. If this decision stands, it would literally destroy the United States of America.”

50 % Tariffs on India

Nearly seven months after he returned to the White House, Trump has dismantled the old global economic order. He has used the US’s immense economic power to sanction countries that refuse to agree to one-sided trade deals while extracting significant concessions from those that comply.

On April 2, the US President announced “reciprocal” taxes of up to 50 % on imports from countries with which the US has trade deficits and 10 % “baseline” taxes on nearly all other countries. He invoked a 1977 law to declare the trade deficit a national emergency, justifying his broad import taxes. When this announcement sparked backlash, he suspended the reciprocal Trump Illegal Tariffs for 90 days to allow countries a chance to negotiate. In the end, some countries met Trump’s demands, while others did not face harsher tariffs.
