Researchers at IIT Kharagpur have developed environmentally friendly food packaging ingredients from cucumber peels! This is great research because according to team members cucumber peels contain more cellulose than other peels.
Cucumber rind is very good for food packaging materials. The research was done in IIT KHARAGPUR to use cucumber peel for packaging material as it has enough cellulose to be used as food packaging material.
Now cucumber peels can be used for packaging in the future. Cucumber peels are eco-friendly materials and can be mixed into nature after being discarded as waste.
Cucumber peels are biodegradable which have a positive effect on our environment. This is a really great initiative that peels can be peeled off and used for packaging. According to the team of researchers, cucumber peels contain more cellulose elements than other waste materials, cucumber peels have lower oxygen permeability.
Plastic is already a big issue for our environment because it does not mature and perishes and it takes thousands of years to dissolve in the soil. We cannot burn plastic nor can we dig into the soil because both of these conditions harm our environment. In today’s time, plastic is a curse for our environment and if it does not settle with time then it will indeed be a big issue for the future.
Even we should not use single plastic for anything, our small efforts can change a lot.

Cucumber is the king of vegetables because it is widely used in salads, pickles, cooked vegetables, and the beverage industry. Peel waste is generated in large numbers due to overuse. The peel is in waste-rich cellulose material. Cucumber produced about 12% of the leftover waste.
Researchers have used cellulose pins, hemicellulose, pectin extracted from this processed material to obtain new bio-degradable which are actually useful.
Cucumber peels have modified properties. The result is better biodegradability in this. It is very good for our health and the environment. Cucumber peels have no negative effect on health and the environment.
Organic wastes have high cellulose. Cucumber waste will be used in food packaging and there is scope for the beverage industry in various fields such as making paper, bio-composites, transparent films. It will also have a positive impact on the environment.
