Production house Panorama Studios on Thursday announced a Hollywood remake of the Drishyam franchise in partnership with Gulfstream Pictures and JOAT Films.
The original producers Aashirvad Cinemas have licensed the international remake rights to Drishyam 1 & 2.
The banner said in a release that a development deal is being finalized for a Spanish language version of the film series.
Panorama Studios’ Chairman and Managing Director, Kumar Mangat Pathak, is eager to share the story of “Drishyam” franchise with audiences worldwide.
We are happy to collaborate with Gulfstream Pictures and JOAT Films to create this story in English for Hollywood. After Korea and Hollywood, we want to produce ‘Drishyam’ in 10 countries within the next three to five years.
‘Drishyam’ has been a massive success in India because of the love our Indian audiences have shown it. The strength of ‘Drishyam’ lies in its story, and we want it to be enjoyed by audiences worldwide,” said producer Abhishek Pathak, who directed “Drishyam 2” (Hindi).
The story revolves around Georgekutty (Mohanlal) and his family, who come under suspicion when Varun Prabhakar, the son of IG Geetha Prabhakar, goes missing.
On the English language adaptation of “Drishyam”, Mike Karz and Bill Bindley of Gulfstream Pictures, the banner behind “Blended” and “Upgraded”, said they are looking forward to working with Panorama Studios and JOAT Films.
In a joint statement, Karz and Bindley said, “We can’t wait to bring the movie to fans here in the U.S..”.
“Drishyam” is described as an enduring story by Jack Nguyen, founder of JOAT Films.
JOAT, Gulfstream and Panorama are excited to have the opportunity to present our take on this cleverly crafted thriller to audiences worldwide,” Nguyen said.
In addition to the Korean and English versions, “Drishyam” has also been remade in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Sinhala, and Mandarin.
