Actor Pankaj Dheer, known for his role as the warrior Karna in BR Chopra’s ‘Mahabharat’, passed away on October 15. His old friend, colleague, and CINTAA member Amit Behl confirmed this news to media.
Reports say Pankaj had been fighting cancer for some time. Despite his efforts, the disease came back a few months ago, leaving him very ill. He also underwent significant surgery related to his condition.
Pankaj Dheer dies at 68
CINTAA released an official statement on Wednesday, confirming Dheer’s passing: “With profound grief and deep sorrow, we inform you of the passing of our Trust’s former Chairman and CINTAA’s former Hon. General Secretary, Shri Pankaj Dheer ji, on October 15 2025. The cremation will take place today at 4:30 pm, next to Pawan Hans, Vile Parle (W), Mumbai.”
He appeared in several films, including ‘Sanam Bewafa’, ‘Baadshah’, and TV shows like ‘Chandrakanta’ and ‘Sasural Simar Ka’.
Popular as Iconic Karna character from Mahabharat
In an earlier interview with India Forums, Pankaj Dheer spoke about the popularity of his character Karna. He mentioned that statues were made in his honor and temples were built, where he is celebrated as the great warrior Karna.
“People have loved me over the years. Even in school history books, if there’s a reference to Karna, my picture is there. As long as these books exist, I will always be their reference for Karna,” he said.
