Indian cheese has gained global recognition after winning four medals at the Mundial do Queijo do Brasil, the Brazil Cheese World Championship, which ended on April 19. PM Modi praised the Indian cheesemakers in a post on X.
India win four medals in Brazil Cheese World Championship
India brought home four medals: one Super Gold, two Golds, and one Silver. The top honor, Super Gold, was awarded to Eleftheria Gulmarg (Brie Style). Judges noted its craftsmanship and quality.
Yak Churpi-Soft, made by Nordic Farm in Leh, Ladakh, and Eleftheria Brunost (Whey Cheese) earned the two gold medals. Meanwhile, the silver medal went to Eleftheria Kaali Miri (Belper Knolle Style). The winners combined traditional cheesemaking techniques with modern ideas. For example, Yak Churpi-Soft showcases a regional product from Ladakh made to appeal to a global audience.

In congratulating the winners, the PM recognized their contribution to putting India’s dairy craftsmanship on the world map. He also mentioned Mausam Narang and Thenlay Nurboo, who have helped bring attention to small-scale and artisanal producers.
“Cheese from India is gaining global recognition. India made a strong debut at the Mundial do Queijo do Brasil 2026, a lively international competition for cheese and dairy products. Four Indian products won medals, including one Super Gold, two Golds, and one Silver,” PM Modi wrote on X. “Congratulations to Mausam Narangand Thenlay Nurboo,” he added.
