Darbhanga Mayor release the statement before upcoming Holi on March 14. It coincides with the Friday prayers held in Ramzan month. The mayor urge that those playing Holi must maintain distance from mosques and places of prayer for 2 hours. She also said, “Holi and Ramzan are celebrated many times before and celebrated peacefully in the district.” The administration gave the statement after peace committee meeting conducts.
On 7 March, Sambhal Circle Officer (CO) Anuj Kumar Chaudhary said those uncomfortable with colors remain indoors because this Hindu festival comes once a year.
Peace committee meeting conducts ahead Holi
A peace committee conducts meeting was held on Tuesday, and Darbhanga mayor urge for 2-hour Holi break. Sambhal Circle Officer (CO) Chaudhary said that since Holi comes once in a year and there are 52 Jummas (Fridays) in a year, Muslim community are requested to stay indoors if they not accepts this hindu festival tradition.
“We request to the Muslim community that if they cannot accept being coloured, then they not come to the place where Holi is celebrated. There are 52 ‘Jumma’ (Fridays) in a year, but only 1 day is for Holi. Hindus wait for this festival in year, just like Muslims wait for Eid. We have give direct message that when people play Holi, and if Muslims don’t want colours to fall on them, then they must stay at home. If they want to not stay on their home, then they must be big-hearted enough to not object if colour falls on them…” Chaudhary said after the meeting.
