The Sathorn Unique Tower, a 49-storey ‘Ghost Tower’ abandoned for many years in Thailand’s Bangkok, today went viral on social media after surviving a 7.7- magnitudeearthquake in Myanmar that shook Southeast Asia. Myanmar’s strongest earthquake in 100 years struck on March 28, sending tremors across Bangkok, 1,000 km from the epicenter. The quake triggered a upward thrust building under construction to disintegrate and shook many buildings in city.

However, the Sathorn Unique Tower, located in Bangkok’s Sathon District and deserted for more than 30 years, remained status, surprising many. On social media, numerous customers shared images of the building, wondering how such an deserted shape could withstand the powerful earthquake.

Originally conceived in the 1990s as a luxury residential and office complicated, the tower was designed to be a 49-storey ‘Ghost Tower’ providing lovely views of the Chao Phraya River. However, as production neared its midpoint, the Asian economic disaster hit in 1997, devastating the Thai economic system, The Telegraph suggested. Many real estate projects, including the tower, were deserted due to a lack of investment.

With its incomplete state and eerie, skeletal look, the constructing became dubbed because the “Ghost Tower,” with the eerie charm making it an ideal vacation spot for daredevil vacationers.

A tourist shared on Travelfreak that he paid 200 baht (US$5.84) to a security protection to gain access for 15 mins. Travel blogger Jack Morris, who has 2.4 million Instagram fans, visited the top floor of the Sathorn building in 2015.
