The Bengaluru police have arrested a shopkeeper and his assistant for assaulting a woman in broad daylight on Sunday. They accused her of stealing sarees worth Rs 90,000. The video of the assault, captured on camera, is now going viral on social media.
Police arrest Bengaluru shopkeeper for beating women
According to police, a woman named Humpamma visited a shop on Avenue Road in Bengaluru and stole a bunch of sarees. She managed to escape, but the entire incident was recorded on the shop’s CCTV. In the footage, the woman is seen inside the shop trying to take a bundle of sarees. After several attempts, she can be seen taking the packed bundle outside.
The woman later returned to the same shop to allegedly steal more sarees. This time, the shopkeeper recognized her and caught her red-handed. In anger, the shopkeeper dragged her onto the road and began slapping and kicking her repeatedly before handing her over to the police.
Thief women also arrested
Nearby shopkeepers in Bengaluru and locals recorded the incident on their phones. Police said that two separate cases have been filed. One is against the woman for theft, and another is against the shopkeeper and his assistant for the assault. All three have been arrested and sent to judicial custody.
