Despite increasing pressure to raise fuel prices due to the disruption caused by the Iran war, the central government has chosen to keep domestic LPG rates unchanged. However, the price of commercial LPG (19 kg) has increased by Rs 993 on average. In Delhi, the price of a commercial LPG cylinder is now Rs 3,071.50, up from Rs 2,078.50. In Mumbai, it increase from Rs 2,031 to Rs 3,024.
LPG cylinder prices rise Rs 993 in Delhi
Notably, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has gone up three times since February 28, the start of the Iran war. The first increase was Rs 144 in March, followed by another rise of nearly Rs 200 on April 1.
This triple hike is expected to have a major impact on restaurants, eateries, and other businesses that depend on cooking fuel for their daily operations. Restaurants will pass these costs on to consumers, making dining out and food delivery more expensive.
Petrol, Diesel Prices Remain Unchanged
Meanwhile, the retail prices of petrol and diesel remain unchanged. In addition, the government has not changed aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices for domestic airlines, which is a big relief for the aviation sector.
While households have welcomed this decision, oil marketing companies (OMCs) will continue to lose money to protect consumers. OMCs are losing about Rs 16,000 crore every day because they buy crude oil at a high price, over $120 per barrel, but sell it at the same rate. With voting in the states finished, OMCs were pushing for an increase in petrol, diesel, aviation turbine fuel, and LPG prices.
