At least 20 people died and several others were injured after a bus caught fire in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, on Friday morning. The Volvo bus was carrying 41 passengers and was traveling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru when it caught fire near Chinnatekur village in Kallur mandal.

According to Kurnool District Collector A Siri, the incident occurred between 3 am and 3:10 am after the bus collided with a motorcycle, resulting in a fuel leak that caused the fire. “Out of the 41 passengers, 21 have been rescued safely. Among the remaining 20, the bodies of 11 have been identified so far. We are working to identify the rest,” Siri said.
“Extremely saddened by the loss of lives due to a mishap in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. My thoughts are with the affected people and their families during this difficult time. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured,” the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in a post on X.
PM compensate victim families with 2 lakh
PM Modi shared his sorrow over the loss of life. He announced a compensation of ₹2 lakh each for the families of those who died and ₹50,000 for the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
The District Collector added, “This incident happened late at night, and the passengers were asleep. The bus’s electrical wiring was damaged after the collision, and the doors could not open. We are investigating the matter. The two drivers managed to escape the fire. The passengers were traveling from Hyderabad, and we are tracing the families of the deceased. A control room has been set up to assist.”
