BJP win lead Durga Temple to Reopens after years
Shri Shri Durgamata Charitable Trust manage this temple and allowed worship during festivals like Lakshmi Puja and Durga Puja. It reopened after BJP won all nine Assembly seats in Paschim Bardhaman district, includes Asansol.
The long closure of the temple was tied to tensions between communities and government restrictions. This reopening was especially important for local residents. Once the gates opened, many devotees and BJP workers came together to offer prayers and celebrate the occasion.
Krishnendu Mukherjee become new MLA in Asansol
Krishnendu Mukherjee, the newly elected MLA from Asansol Uttar, who promised to keep the Durga temple open year-round if he won, visited and helped facilitate its reopening. For many residents, this moment signifies not just a religious event but also a symbol of political change in the area after the BJP’s electoral win.
In a surprising turn, the BJP defeated the Trinamool Congress (TMC), winning 206 of 293 seats and ending Mamata Banerjee’s rule after 15 years. The party surpassed the halfway mark of 147 seats, while the TMC secured only 80 seats. The TMC is currently leading in one seat, Rajarhat New Town, with one more round of counting left.
