Days after the Delhi government lifted the Fuel Ban on diesel vehicles above 10 years and petrol vehicles above 15 years, an order issued on Monday. It said that no fuel given to vehicles falling in those categories from November 1. The fuel guidelines carried out in the 5 districts of the National Capital Region (NCR) on the same day.
A meeting of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) held on Tuesday. After this, Delhi government wrote to them to check their decision towards “no fuel” for the End of Life vehicles from July 1.
Fuel Ban order implemented in 5 cities from 1 November
The commission decided to enforce the fuel ban in all the six cities of the Delhi-NCR from November 1. The “no fuel” rules for EOL vehicles implemented in Gurugram, Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad and Sonipat from November 1. On July 1, the Delhi government starts marketing campaign to combat air pollution by banning fuel supply to end-of-life vehicles. As per the government order, petrol pumps not provide fuel to diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol cars older than 15 years.
The initiative, directed by the CAQM, involved computerized digital digital camera structures at fuelling stations to discover vehicle age. Traffic police also empowered to impound violating cars or issue challans.
Backlash Forces Delhi to Reconsider Ban
However, following a big backlash, the government lifted the Fuel Ban with Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa pronouncing that the government will plan to project a latest system concerning old vehicles. It highlighted how the fuel ban on old cars clashes with India’s sustainable, repair-not-replace ethos, rendering the ban un-Indian.
On Sunday, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena wrote to the Delhi government asking it to ban. In the letter addressed to Chief CM Gupta, Saxena cited that the people of Delhi not followed up for the type of ban.
