Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has introduced a domestic ethanol-powered cooking stove as part of India’s efforts to promote biofuel and clean energy.
The newly presented stove uses an ethanol-water blend to create cooking flames. It aims to serve as an alternative to traditional LPG cooking systems. This development supports ongoing efforts to reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels and encourages the use of domestic biofuels across different sectors.
Gadkari Showcases Ethanol Cooking Stove Technology
During a public event in Nagpur on May 25, 2026, Nitin Gadkari unveiled a cooking stove that uses ethanol-based fuel. The minister said the stove runs on a mixture of ethanol and water, producing a flame suitable for everyday cooking. This technology is developed locally and aims to help India’s push for cleaner energy solutions.
Ethanol Blend Claimed to Lower Cooking Costs
Gadkari mentioned that combining around 7% ethanol with water can create a usable cooking flame. He noted that the operating cost of the ethanol stove could be lower than that of traditional LPG cylinders used in many homes. The minister suggested that adopting this technology could reduce household fuel costs over time.
The launch of the ethanol cooking technology is part of India’s broader effort to increase biofuel use and lessen dependency on imported crude oil and petroleum products.
