A little over a year after India finished its nationwide rollout of E20 petrol in April 2025, a new survey has found that vehicle performance has notably declined. While the government celebrates hitting its 20% ethanol-blending target six years early, consumers, especially those with older vehicles, are reporting significant drops in mileage and faster engine damage.
Petrol Vehicles experienced a mileage dip
As per survey, Out of 24,710 respondents, half indicated that fuel efficiency has dropped in the last nine months. Some reported a reduction in mileage of up to 20 percent.
Vehicles face more engine issues
The survey also found that among vehicle owners who bought their cars before 2022, about 29 percent have faced unusual wear and tear or repair needs in the past nine months. Many owners reported problems with their engine, fuel line, tank, carburettor, and more.
