Serious allegations have come to light regarding the illegal extraction and sale of dog blood in the Hyderabad. Animal welfare activists claim that stray and even pet dogs exploited as “living blood banks” for profit.
Stray dogs blood selling racket in Hyderabad
Complaints suggest that a private pet care facility is capturing street dogs by luring them with food, keeping them in confinement, and taking their blood for transfusions. Activists say that the animals kept in poor conditions and undergo frequent blood withdrawal, which raises concerns about cruelty, neglect, and possible long-term health issues.
It is reported that around Rs 18,000 to Rs 30,000 charged for around 350 ml of dog blood. This extracted blood then allegedly used for transfusions in sick pets taken to clinics.
Activists Alert the issue
Animal rights groups have alerted the authorities about this issue, calling for action against what they consider an unregulated and illegal animal blood bank. They emphasize that while blood transfusion is a legitimate veterinary practice, it must adhere to strict ethical and medical guidelines, including proper sourcing and care for donor animals.
Meanwhile, activists warned pet owners, especially those using boarding facilities, to stay alert and ensure that their pets are not exploited. They have called on the government to create and enforce stricter penalties for animal abuse.
