The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas denied on Wednesday that the India government is considering any proposal to increase petrol and diesel prices. It is called recent media reports suggesting a post-election price hike misleading.
Petroleum Ministry Dismiss Fuel Hike Claims in India
“There are some news reports suggesting a price hike of petrol and diesel. It is hereby clarified that there is no such proposal under consideration by the government,” the Ministry said.
“Such news items designed to create fear and panic among citizens and are misleading,” it added.
Fuel record in country
The Ministry mentioned that India is the only country where petrol and diesel prices have not increased in the last four years.
“The Government and Oil PSUs have taken consistent steps to protect Indian citizens from steep increases in international prices,” the statement said.
