A 44-year-old vegetable vendor was beaten to death by two youths after a dispute over Rs 10 in Budhakhera colony, on the outskirts of Karnal. The incident happened near a drain on the main road and was captured on CCTV.
The victim was identified as Sanjay, who ran a vegetable shop. He is survived by his wife and four daughters.

According to a complaint filed by one of his daughters, the family was at the shop around 9:30 PM when the two youths came in and bought fruits and vegetables worth Rs 210. The accused gave Rs 200 and tried to leave without paying the remaining amount.
“When we asked for the remaining Rs 10, the youths started abusing us. My father intervened and asked them not to argue. The situation quickly escalated into a violent fight,” she said.

She also claimed that the accused pushed her father and then attacked him with sticks and a brick. Her younger sister tried to help their father with a stick, but the accused took it from her and hit her as well. Their mother was also beaten when she tried to step in.
The family rushed Sanjay to District Civil Hospital, but he was later referred to Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College (KCGMC) due to his serious injuries. He died during treatment.
“We have registered a case against two individuals and handed over the body to the family after the post-mortem examination. We are working to arrest the accused,” said Satish Kumar, the SHO of the Sector-32/33 police station.
