Kashmiri Muslim students face threats after Pahalgam Attack, abused in Chandigarh, Dehradun

Kashmiri Muslim students in several parts of the country are face threats after Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, especially tourists. The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) claimed to have obtained over 1,000 distress calls from students throughout the country. Many students expressed fears for their safety and made urgent plans to go back home amid rising threats.

JKSA Authority provide helpline numbers to support Kashmiri Muslim students

JKSA has released emergency helpline numbers and placed a devoted group to support students and liaise with authorities. According to ANI, in a traumatic incident on the Universal Group of Institutions in Derabassi, Chandigarh, Kashmiri students were allegedly attacked in their hostel on Wednesday night time by a collection wielding sharp guns. One students was injured, and others pronounced being physically assaulted and having their garments torn, as per reports. “There is fear among Kashmiri students. Their households are involved and asking them to go back home,” Nasir Khuehami, National Convenor of JKSA.

In Uttarakhand’s Dehradun, a viral video allegedly proposing a member of the Hindu Raksha Dal has intensified tensions. In the video, the individual requested Kashmiri Muslim students to leave the city. The viral video and next threats have left many students in a state of limbo, particularly the ones presently appearing for checks. Some are attending training out of compulsion, in spite of feeling deeply risky.

“We’re attending classes due to exams, but we are scared. There’s been no outreach or guarantee from local authorities,” a Kashmiri Muslim students said. At least over a dozen students studying in Dehradun have already returned to Kashmir amid fears of a backlash following the Pahalgam attack. In reaction, JKSA has issued a country advisory urging Kashmiri students to stay inside, keep away from confrontations, and stay away from political discussions online. Nasir Khuehami also showed that he had reached out to senior government concerning the threats.
