Devendra Fadnavis arrived at Mumbai’s Vidhan Bhavan on a motorcycle. He was later seen leaving the legislature complex on the same bike. The Maharashtra government described this as part of its effort to save money after PM Modi urged people to cut fuel use and unnecessary spending.
Maharashtra CM Fadnavis Rides Motorcycle
Videos shared on social media showed the CM riding as a passenger on a motorcycle to reach the Vidhan Bhavan in south Mumbai. Another clip showed him leaving later in the day using the same mode of transport. BJP leader and minister Ashish Shelar rode with Fadnavis.
Fadnavis attended the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected members of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. This came a day after the Maharashtra government announced several cost-saving measures aimed at fuel conservation and reducing official spending.
Congress Call It ‘Photo OP’
As soon as the videos of Fadnavis appeared, the Congress party criticized him and called the bike ride a “photo op.” Mumbai Congress president Varsha Gaikwad posted on X, “How does the CM of Maharashtra swapping a car convoy with a motorbike convoy really help? A little bit of mileage difference is all?”
She added, “The CM lives near Napeansea Road and had to go to Vidhan Bhawan today. If he really wanted to set an example, he could have taken the BEST bus from Napeansea Road and walked a few meters to reach his destination.”
