A large fire broke out at a furniture market in Shastri Park, Delhi, late Friday night. Following the incident, frustrated locals threw stones at fire vehicles due to delays in the firefighting response. Authorities later confirmed that the fire under control and no injuries reported so far.

Officials stated that the blaze spread quickly because of highly flammable materials like plywood and wooden furniture stored in the market. Deputy Chief Fire Officer D B Mukherjee said the Delhi Fire Service received the call about the fire at 11:57 PM, and firefighting teams sent right away.
“The Fire Control Room received the report of the fire at 11:57. Initially, a standard response was sent. However, since this market contained a large amount of highly flammable materials, the incident declared a ‘Major’ fire and officially categorized as a ‘Medium’ fire,” Mukherjee told.
Locals Attack Fire Vehicles, Pelting Stones
According to officials and eyewitnesses, tensions rose after some residents noticed that only two fire trucks arrived during the early phase of the response. Angered locals reportedly threw stones at the firefighting vehicles, but authorities did not confirm if any personnel hurt in the incident.
The layout of the Shastri Park furniture market, Delhi complicated firefighting efforts as flames quickly spread through wooden structures and stacked materials.
