A cruise boat carrying more than 30 passengers capsized in the Bargi Dam in Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh evening after losing balance due to sudden stormy weather. So far, at least six bodies have been recovered from the fast-moving waters of the dam, which is built on the Narmada River. Fifteen passengers were able to swim to safety, and the deceased included two women.

Around eight to ten passengers are still missing in the dam waters. Police and State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF) personnel are involved in a thorough search and rescue operation.
The accident happened near Khamaria Tapu, an island in the Bargi Dam area. Sudden bad weather caused strong winds and high waves, making the cruise boat lose balance, overturn, and slowly sink.
Rescue efforts starts
Officials said the rescue efforts are urgent, but poor visibility is slowing down operations. Teams are using boats and other equipment to search the waters for survivors and missing passengers.
When officials learned about the incident, Jabalpur District Collector Raghvendra Singh and Superintendent of Police Sampat Upadhyaya quickly went to the site to supervise the ongoing rescue efforts.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP-Jabalpur) Anjana Tiwari confirmed the incident, noting that six bodies have been found so far, while search operations are still active for those who are unaccounted for.
