The Jammu and Kashmir Police detained six members of a family, include four womens, for allegedly assisting the militants involved in last week’s Kathua Encounter in which 4 policemen were killed. Sources stated the six detained were family members of an overground employee who is already in jail for allegedly supplying logistical support for militants who attacked an Army convoy in Kathua’s Badnota village last year, killing 5 groups.
4 Women killed in Kathua Encounter
Since March 23, security forces have been in search of the militants who’re believed to have crossed the International Border into Saniyal village in Hiranagar sector. The family is accused of supporting them flee to the forests close to Jakhole village. Apart from the six of this family, police had earlier picked up six others for looking in reference to their look for the militants. On March 23, quickly after crossing the border, the militants fled Saniyal after a short exchange of fire with security forces.
4 days later, a joint group of police and other safety forces re-installed touch with the militants in the forests near Jakhole village, and in the course of a day-long operation, gunned down two militants even as some others are believed to have escaped into the thick forests.
4 Policeman killed
Four policemen had also killed. Looking at the 30-km course taken by the militants from Saniyal to Jakhole, sources said they look like trying to continue to the Kailash tri junction that touches Udhampur on one side, Doda on any other and Kathua Encounter at third side. Sources stated the militants, meanwhile, knocked at the doors of a local resident at Rajalu village, nearly 3 kms from Jakhole, and requested for food at gunpoint at around 7.30-8 pm Sunday.
