Tamil Nadu CM Vijay has allowed five screenings a day for new Tamil movies for a week after their release. He has also introduced a major crop loan waiver scheme for farmers, providing significant relief to small and marginal farmers who took loans from cooperative banks.
Tamil Nadu CM Announces Farmer Loan Waivers
However, farmers disappointed. They pointed out that the TVK manifesto promised a complete farm loan waiver for those with up to five acres of land. The TVK has not responded to this issue.
The waivers announced after a meeting with officials, including the CM. In a statement, the government said that any marginal farmer with a debt of less than Rs 50,000 would receive a complete waiver. If small farmers debts under Rs 50,000, then 50 percent of the debt will be waived.
Farmer with debt less than 50k get complete waiver
For those with debts over Rs 50,000, the waiver will follow government guidelines. Loans between Rs 50,001 and Rs 60,000 will receive a waiver of Rs 40,000. Loans from Rs 60,001 to Rs 70,000 will receive Rs 30,000 off their debt. Farmers with loans from Rs 70,001 to Rs 80,000 will get a relief of Rs 20,000. Loans between Rs 80,001 and Rs 1 lakh will have a fixed waiver of Rs 10,000, while those with crop loans over Rs 1 lakh will receive Rs 5,000 off.
Additionally, loans waived for farmers who took loans between May 1, 2025, and February 28, 2026. Officials said this initiative aims to give substantial financial support to farmers and lessen their debt burden in the agricultural sector.
