A passenger bus crash in hillside in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district. This incident claims life of 21 people and injured 29 others. The bus crashed into auto rickshaw before end up upside down on road below. The passengers in auto rickshaw suffered injuries.
21 killed in Udhampur bus crash
An Army convoy passing through the hilly area led the rescue effort after the private bus driver lost control while navigating a blind curve near Kagort village in the Ramnagar area around 10 am. The bus carrying 50 passengers, mainly individuals commuting to their jobs from Ramnagar to Udhampur.
Rescue operations starts
The rescue operation was extremely difficult because the bus had turned into a twisted pile of metal, with the top nearly torn off. President Murmu and PM Modi expressed their condolences for the lives lost in the accident. They announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of those who died and Rs 50,000 for those injured.
J-K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and CM Omar Abdullah promised all possible help to the families of the deceased and the injured. They also instructed the relevant authorities to provide immediate relief and necessary support to those affected.
