Collapse into Ganga River
Currently, the Vikramshila Setu, an important connection between Bhagalpur and Seemanchal, is completely closed to traffic. Reports shows that late in the evening, a 10-inch expansion joint began to sink; later that night, a slab near pier number 133 collapsed and fell into the Ganges River.
DM Naval Kishore Chaudhary told reporters, “At around 12:35 a.m., a slab began to sink near pillar number 133. Thanks to the attentiveness of our local officer and SHO, people evacuated. As soon as they got to safety, within 15 minutes, a slab fell into the river Ganga. No vehicle was on that slab. The bridge sealed off from both the Bhagalpur and Navgachhiya sides. We cannot set up an alternative route at night.
