A video showing a flooded Pune Metro coach gone viral on social media, sparking a strong debate and concern among daily commuters.
This incident followed heavy rains in the city. It leave many citizens worried about the safety and weather resistance of Pune’s transit system. Transit authorities quickly moved to address online speculation, explaining that the water pooling inside the train resulted from a mechanical failure, not the weather outside.
Source of the Overflow water in Pune metro
The disruption happened on Train Set-5 while it was at the Ramwadi Metro Station on Line-2. Tambwekar explained that the water covering the compartment floor was not linked to the ongoing monsoon rains. Instead, it stemmed from the train’s HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) unit.
Raise Maintenance Questions
Heavy dust buildup from recent operations had blocked the air conditioning unit’s drainage pipe.
When the AC system created normal condensation, the blocked pipe prevented it from draining. With nowhere else to go, the condensation backed up and spilled over into the passenger coach. The train operator noticed the water pooling right away and reported it to the maintenance command center.
Acting quickly, the operator turned off the affected HVAC unit to stop the water flow, managing the situation without endangering passenger safety or causing significant delays to the evening’s transit schedule.
