A Delhi court cleared Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal of charges related to ignoring ED summons in the liquor policy case.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate ParasDalal of the Rouse Avenue Courts issued the verdict. A detailed order released later.
Delhi Court acquits Arvind Kejriwal
The ED approached the court, claiming that Kejriwal intentionally not respond to a summons issued in a money laundering investigation tied to the alleged excise policy scam.
The agency stated that Kejriwal’s failure to comply was “willful,” as he did not meet with investigators despite several notices.
Why ED file legal complaints against him
The Enforcement Directorate filed two separate legal complaints against Arvind Kejriwal. ED accusing him of not participating in the investigation after summoned. The agency noted that Kejriwal missed summons issued on November 2 and December 21, 2023, and January 3 and January 18, 2024. Kejriwal referred to these summons as “illegal.”
Kejriwal arrested by the ED on March 21, 2024. He received bail from vacation judge NiyayBindu of the Rouse Avenue Courts on June 20, 2024. However, after the Enforcement Directorate contested the bail order, the Delhi High Court put it on hold.
In July 2024, the Supreme Court granted Kejriwal interim bail and sent his challenge against the ED arrest to a larger Bench.
