Recently, Police arrest the Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte at Manila’s international airport on Tuesday on order of the International Criminal Court. Duterte arrested has happened over case of crime against humanity filed against him, as per Philippine government.
Duterte arrested due to involvement in drug killings
He was arrested when he arrive from Hong Kong. Police took him for custody on ICC Orders, and start investigation on massive killings that happened under the former president’s deadly crackdown against illegal drugs. President Ferdinand Marcos’ office made a statement. ICC launched the investigation into drug killings under Duterte from 1 Nov 2011, when he was mayor of the southern city of Davao, to March 16, 2019, from Rome Statute in a move human rights activists say that he was aim to escape accountability over the killings
His administration moved to suspend the global court’s investigation in late 2021 by argue that Philippine authorities look into allegations and arguing the ICC, the court of last resort, did not have jurisdiction.
ICC rejects Duterte administration’s objections
After Duterte arrested, ICC appeal judges to starts the investigation and rejects Duterte administration’s objections. ICC steps in when countries are unable to find suspects in the most heinous international crimes consist war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity.
