Shillong court recently grant bail to Sonam Raghuvanshi in Meghalaya honeymoon murder case. She is the main suspect in May 2025 murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi. The court ruled that the police not clearly communicate the reasons for her arrest, which impact her defense.
Sonam Raghuvanshi bail granted by Shillong Court
Addl. DC (Judicial), Shillong, Dashalene R Kharbteng, approved her bail request on the 4th attempt. She pointed out that the “Intimation of Grounds of Arrest” form given to Sonam unchecked boxes and referred to the wrong penal section of BNS.
The court also noted that there was no record showing that Sonam had legal counsel when she was first presented in court at Ghazipur on June 9, 2025. This means that she could not have raised her plea about not being informed of the grounds for her arrest.
Case in brief
Sonam Raghuvanshi has been in jail for over 10 months after her arrest in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, in June 2025, related to her husband’s murder. It is important to note that while the FIR accused her under Sections 103(1), 238(a), 309(6), and 3(6) of the BNS. The arrest memo and all police documents mistakenly cited Section 403(1) (Dishonest misappropriation of property) instead of Section 103(1) (MURDER).
