A special court for economic offences in Bengaluru Friday rejected a bail plea filed by actress Ranya Rao. FIR Registered after she was arrested with 14.2 kg of gold worth Rs 12.56 crore at Bengaluru International Airport. She arrested on March 3 by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). Special court rejects bail recently. “The bail application filed by accused No.1 U/s.480 of BNSS, 2023 is hereby rejected,” the special magistrate’s court said.

Senior Advocate Kiran Javali, who represented Ranya, had argued that Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officers. It did not follow Section 102 of the Customs Act and that the arrest memo was not issued.

“The truth that she was recorded without being allowed to sleep does not constitute a spontaneous assertion. The prosecution said in the remand application that three people had been arrested. However, no facts are come about it.”

Senior standing counsel Madhu N Rao, who represented the State, said that Ranya arrested under the Customs Act. There is a massive network concerned in gold smuggling. The forensic science laboratory records are awaited and the research is ongoing. Therefore, she should be denied bail,” he argued.

DRI officials had arrested Ranya on the Bengaluru International Airport on March 3 and seized 14.2 kg of gold really worth ₹12.86 crore from her. It was alleged that Ranya used to hold the gold in her belt and jacket to steer clear of inspection through customs officers, so Special court rejects bail. It is stated that Ranya, the followed daughter of a DGP-rank officer in the State, use the VIP treatment in the airport to steer clear of inspection.

After a search became carried out at Ranya’s house, DRI officials seized jewelry net worth ₹2.06 crore and cash of ₹2.67 crore, taking the entire seizure in the case to ₹17.29 crore. Ranya, who was in DRI custody for 3 days, become release to 15 days of judicial custody by the court last Monday.
