Rath, who had with Adhikari for several years, was attacked on Wednesday night in Madhyamgram in North 24 Parganas district. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and taken to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Adhikari described it as a “painful murder” and said the police promised to take appropriate action in the case.
How does attack happens?
Police sources say that Rath’s vehicle followed by two others—one a car, the other a motorcycle. The car reportedly overtook Rath’s vehicle, causing it to slow down. Moments later, attackers on the motorcycle opened fire from close range.
They fired at least four shots, three of which hit Rath in the chest, abdomen, and head. Eyewitnesses told police that the motorcycle used in the attack did not have a registration plate, raising suspicions of a planned hit. “Someone followed his car, and when it slowed, they opened fire,” a source said.
